A winter morning in Latvia is rarely all of a piece: an icy bend at seven, wet salted tarmac by the afternoon. For a studless tyre that is a contradictory task, because below zero the rubber has to stay pliable, yet above zero it must not turn slippery. The Sailun Ice Blazer Arctic 2 tries to cover that range as the second-generation Nordic-type friction tyre in the Ice Blazer Arctic line. The tyre is intended for passenger cars and crossovers in the Baltics and the Nordic countries, where a friction tread is chosen instead of studs.
There are no independent test results for this model as yet: neither ADAC nor Auto Bild nor Tyre Reviews has measured it, and Sailun did not take part at all in the 2025 test of 14 winter tyres in size 205/55 R16. The only comparable figures therefore come from the EU tyre label.
On the data sheet for the predecessor Ice Blazer Arctic the manufacturer lists fuel efficiency class C, wet grip class E and noise of 70-72 dB; in the Ice Blazer Arctic Evo range, intended for larger wheels, the same C and E with 72 dB dominate. For the Arctic 2 sizes currently in the shop the label shows fuel efficiency B to C, wet grip C to D and 72-73 dB. The sizes are different, so this is not a direct comparison, but the wet grip class has moved up a step, and the price for that is roughly one decibel of noise.
For now the manufacturer is keeping the construction details to itself. The Arctic 2 is not yet on Sailun's European product pages, so neither the tread pattern nor the name of the sipe technology has been published, and the previous generation's L-shaped grooves and X-grooves cannot be credited to this tyre. Something else is confirmed: a rubber compound which, as Sailun emphasises, stays pliable in hard frost and also copes with a wet road in the milder transitional period. The tread carries the 3PMSF symbol, which in Latvia meets the requirements for a winter tyre. Added to that is the EU ice grip pictogram - it is this mark that separates Nordic-type tyres from Central European winter models. The tyre is suitable for electric vehicles and hybrids, and Sailun has awarded it the EV-ready designation itself, without naming either a standard or a certification body.
Sailun showed the model publicly in March 2026 at the Polar Drive event in Muonio, Finnish Lapland, around 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. According to the manufacturer, over two weeks about 120 participants from the Nordic and Baltic countries tried the tyres at temperatures from -20 to +5 degrees on ice, fresh snow, slush and wet tarmac. Alongside combustion-engined cars, the test fleet included the electric Audi A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron, so the programme also assessed noise and energy consumption. The Arctic 2 has no mileage warranty or service-life estimate, and in its winter range the model Sailun positions on mileage is the Ice Blazer Alpine Evo2, not this one. At the Rīgas Riepas shop the Ice Blazer Arctic 2 is available in 9 sizes with wheel diameter from R15 to R21 inches.
