FIRESTONE, part of the BRIDGESTONE group, has prepared a new Winterhawk 4 winter tyre for the winter of 2020, designed for passenger cars and urban SUVs.
Before development began, FIRESTONE surveyed 2,000 drivers across Europe, who shared their experiences and needs when driving in winter. Most of all, drivers wanted a tyre that would perform equally well in winter on snow-covered roads and on wet surfaces.
Based on the survey results, Firestone's engineers succeeded in creating the new Winterhawk 4 tyre, which is more efficient than the Winterhawk 3.
By increasing the number of drainage channels on the tread, better performance on slippery road surfaces was achieved in the tyre's shoulder area, and contact pressure was optimised to increase braking efficiency on slippery surfaces.
The wide drainage channels not only help clear water and wet snow from the tyre's tread, but their zigzag shape also improves the tyre's grip.
- In March, tests were carried out at the Artic Falls proving ground in Sweden, where the new Winterhawk 4 tyre outperformed the Winterhawk 3 in every parameter.
The manufacturer also promises a competitive price for this new tyre.
