Summer tyres in Latvia

Winter tyres are mandatory in Latvia from 1 December to 1 March, and studded tyres are banned from 1 May to 1 October. So summer tyres can go on from March, and studded tyres must come off by 1 May. The exact day is best chosen by the weather, as March and April nights can still freeze. The minimum tread depth for summer tyres is 1.6 mm.

In summer what matters most is grip on wet asphalt and the correct load index, especially on large rims, SUVs and electric cars. The EU tyre label is a first guide, but independent tests show more.
