Mercedes-Benz original equipment (OE) tyres

MO-family tyres for Mercedes-Benz and AMG models - in the exact specification the car left the factory with.

The general OE-marking segment brings together homologations from every manufacturer - the BMW star, Audi AO, Porsche N0 and the rest. Here the scope is narrower: only the Mercedes-Benz MO family. The MO (Mercedes-Original) marking on the sidewall means that the tyre was developed together with the carmaker and approved at the factory for specific Mercedes-Benz and AMG models. Below you will find MO-marked models across a wide range of sizes - for summer, winter and all-season.

Who MO tyres suit and how to choose them

Behind the MO marking lies a rubber compound, casing and tread tuned to a specific Mercedes model, so that the tyre works with that car's suspension and stability systems. MO suits a broad Mercedes range, from the A- and B-Class to the GLC and GLE SUVs and the E- and S-Class. The family splits into subgroups: MO1 is developed for AMG models, MOE (MOExtended) is the RunFlat version for models with factory TPMS, MO-S (Silent) is for noise-sensitive S-Class cars and has a foam insert, while MO-V is intended for Mercedes vans.

In practice, the choice comes down to what the car came with from the factory. A few basic principles:

  • Compare the full sidewall marking. A visually identical tyre may lack MO approval, so the size, the load and speed index and the MO marking itself all have to match, not just the model name.
  • MO, MO1 and MOE are not interchangeable. Each is tied to a specific car type and suspension calibration; a non-RunFlat option must never be fitted in place of an MOE tyre, or vice versa.
  • MOE requires factory TPMS. Without pressure monitoring the driver notices nothing when air is lost and the self-supporting safety function does not work.
  • Fit identically marked tyres on the same axle. The MO and the non-MO version of the same model can differ in compound and construction.
  • For winter, look for 3PMSF, not MO. The MO marking alone says nothing about the season - for a Latvian winter, choose an MO or MOE model with the 3PMSF marking.

If the car did not leave the factory on MO tyres, or you simply want the cheapest option, an ordinary premium tyre in the correct size will do just as well. The MO segment is meant for those who want to restore the exact factory specification and keep the original driving character. The same applies to Mercedes EQ electric models: MO tyres suit them, and ordinary passenger-car tyres are suitable for electric cars too.

Frequently asked questions

MO (Mercedes-Original) is a Mercedes-Benz factory approval confirming that the tyre was developed for specific models of this brand. The marking sits on the tyre sidewall next to the size and the load/speed index. The family also includes the MO1, MOE, MO-S and MO-V variants.
MO is the standard OE marking, MO1 is developed for AMG models with a tailored compound and casing, while MOE (MOExtended) is the self-supporting, or RunFlat, version with a reinforced sidewall. They are not interchangeable - each is tied to a specific car and suspension calibration.
Yes, MOE is a Mercedes-approved RunFlat tyre. According to tyre retailers' figures, it lets you keep driving roughly 80 km with a partially loaded car and about 30 km with a fully loaded one, and only as far as a service centre. MOE needs factory TPMS pressure monitoring to work.
Technically you can, if the size and the load/speed index match, but a non-MO tyre may have a different compound and casing construction. The MO version is tuned to the Mercedes suspension and electronics, so an MO tyre preserves the factory driving character more precisely. Identically marked tyres must be fitted on the same axle.
Yes, MO tyres are also made in winter versions, but for winter you should choose a model with the 3PMSF ("mountain and snowflake") marking - the MO marking itself does not indicate the season. As the CSDD notes, in Latvia winter tyres with 3PMSF are mandatory from 1 December to 1 March for passenger cars up to 3,500 kg.
MO tyres are supplied by both premium and other brands. In our range you will find them from Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Goodyear and Yokohama, for example.
